Indian Classical Music — SSB Lecturette Speech Outline
A “soft” chit — structure saves you. Use this outline under a 3-minute prep clock, then speak without reading.
Opening hook (~40 seconds)
A raga is a rule-set that still leaves room to improvise — which is a very Indian idea of freedom.
Body — three points (~90 seconds)
- Two major streams: Hindustani and Carnatic. You only need one feature of each if that is all you know.
- It trains patience and listening — useful metaphors for command without pretending you are a critic.
- Fusion and film music carried fragments worldwide; the root tradition still needs students and sabhas.
Closing line (~50 seconds)
If you cannot sing, you can still argue that a civilisation is remembered by what it refuses to let die.
What to avoid
If you know nothing, pick another chit. Honesty beats bluffing tala cycles.
