When TES makes sense
If you are in Class 12 with PCM, have a competitive JEE Main score and are certain about the Army (not Navy/Air Force), TES skips the UPSC written entirely. You go straight to SSB after merit shortlisting. The trade-off: you commit younger with less life experience — assessors calibrate for potential.
When TGC makes sense
If you already hold an engineering degree, TGC (via CDS or direct notification) is your technical route. You bring domain knowledge the IO will probe in the Personal Interview. CDS-TGC and direct TGC share the same SSB and training pipeline once shortlisted.
SSB preparation is identical
Whether TES or TGC, you face the same PPDT, TAT, WAT, SRT, SD, GTO tasks and Personal Interview. Technical entries do not get an easier board — the IO will ask why Army technical arms specifically and may test basic engineering awareness.
